Lucas Giolito likes what he sees as Summer Camp winds down
Knowing that Lucas Giolito is good for some color, his media session on Sunday led off with a question about Luis Robert, he of the two mammoth intrasquad home runs in one game Roberts.
"That was crazy," Giolito says, shaking his head and laughing. "I don’t know if I’ve seen a ball that far to left field. He's going to be an absolute beast for the next 10-20 years."
Giolito did talk pitching, expressing excitement at working with Yasmani Grandal after a full season of great work with James McCann.
"It’s been great," Giolito says of working with Yaz. "Communication is there. He’s really, really good behind the plate. He swallowed a low curve and stole a strike last night."
I did ask Giolito about a prospective Opening Day start (before manager Ricky Renteria confirmed Lucas as his Friday guy later on Sunday) and whether it would mean more, and create more pressure, given all that's riding on the return of baseball in this of all years.
"I don’t really see it that way," he says. "I'm not going to put extra pressure on myself. I'm just going out and having fun. I know my routine and how to put myself in position to be successful. Just want to go out and have fun with it."
One thing that will help with the pressure is not having to face the White Sox offense any longer.
"I’m glad I don’t have to face our offense any more," Giolito says. "Yesterday wasn’t that fun. I’m not seeing too many holes. I think we’re going to make a lot of noise."
