All-Star Pitcher to Make Season Debut For New York Yankees
At long last, this starting pitcher will be taking the mound for the New York Yankees.
All-Star hurler Carlos Rodon is back and he is set to start for the Yankees on Friday night against the Chicago Cubs in what will be his team debut.
Rodon has missed the entire season to this date, as he dealt with a forearm strain and back tightness that kept him out since early-March.
The left-hander made three rehab starts, in which he posted a 0.84 ERA, 0.56 WHIP and 17 strikeouts across 10.2 innings.
Now that he is back, Rodon will slot in as the No. 2 starter in the Yankees' rotation behind ace Gerrit Cole.
The Yankees have been lacking a true second starter given the struggles of Luis Severino and Nestor Cortes (IL) this season.
The Yankees signed Rodon to a six-year, $162 million contract in the offseason.
They will now finally get to see what they paid for, as Rodon will take the mound against the Cubs on Friday night.
With just three games to go until the All-Star break, the Yankees are 48-40 and eight games back of the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East, despite sitting in fourth place. They are, however, tied with the Toronto Blue Jays for the final Wild Card spot.
