New York Yankees 2023 Top 30 Prospect Wraps: Anthony Hall
InsideThePinstripes.com will review each of the New York Yankees’ Top 30 prospects, as ranked by MLB.com at the end of the 2023 season.
No. 22: OF Anthony Hall, Hudson Valley Renegades (High-A), Tampa Tarpons (Class-A)
Statistics for 2023: (84 games) .246/.353/.403/.756 with 54 runs, 15 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs, 47 RBI, 52 walks, 89 strikeouts, five stolen bases, four caught stealing.
At Tampa (60 games) .269/.382/.449/.831 with 43 runs, 10 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 37 RBI, 40 walks, 61 strikeouts, three stolen bases, four caught stealing.
At Hudson Valley (24 games) .194./282/.296/.578 with 11 runs, five doubles, one triple, one home run, 10 RBI, 12 walks, 28 strikeouts, two stolen bases.
Season Transactions: He started the season with an assignment to Tampa. On July 5 he was moved to the 7-day injured list. He was activated on July 27 and promoted to Hudson Valley on Aug. 8.
Season Summary: This was Hall’s first full season of minor-league baseball, as he only got a brief taste of it last year after he was drafted. The former collegiate posted quality numbers at Tampa, where he showed off some power and a penchant for drawings walks. But the promotion to Hudson Valley didn’t go quite as well. He batted under .200, saw his walk ratio go down and the power he showed at Tampa disappeared. It is not uncommon for players to struggle when they make the jump from one rung to the next in minor league baseball.
Path Through the Organization: The Yankees’ fourth-round pick last year seems to have blossomed since a productive stint in the 2021 Cape Cod League. In 2022 with Oregon he set the program record for slugging percentage. He broke the hamate bone in his right hand on his first professional at-bat and only had his first full minor-league season in 2023. But, he was productive, moving up a rung of the organizational ladder by season’s end.
What’s next: Per MLB.com, Hall has qualities teams like in batters, including a quick swing, gap power and home run power from left-center field to the right field line as a left-handed hitter. He can play either center field or one of the corners as a defender and has solid speed to cover ground. With the Yankees’ three top outfield prospects either in the Bronx or close, it’s not clear what Hall’s path might be to the Majors. But, given that he’s at High-A, he has at least another year of development ahead of him.
