Blue Jays Linked To Rumored Yankees Target As Top Landing Spot For Superstar
One of the New York Yankees' biggest rivals may end up landing a former Most Valuable Player this offseason.
The Yankees have been linked to former Chicago Cubs superstar outfielder Cody Bellinger on numerous occasions over the last year but at this point, it seems like he's going to be playing elsewhere.
New York landed superstar slugger Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo, and Trent Grisham and likely won't give Bellinger the contract he is hoping to land. There have been some rumblings about a possible move, but it should be considered unlikely.
One club that actually could end up landing the 2019 National League Most Valuable Player, though, is the Toronto Blue Jays, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.
"The Blue Jays feel like the team that’s most likely to give Bellinger what he wants," Feinsand said. "After missing out on Ohtani and watching the Yankees trade for Juan Soto, Toronto is still looking for an impact lefty bat to add to the lineup.
"Bellinger is the best left-handed hitter remaining in free agency and probably the best overall position player still available, making him a good fit for the Blue Jays. The Cubs shouldn’t be counted out, but Chicago has had ample opportunity to re-sign Bellinger. The guess here is a seven-year, $182 million deal with the Blue Jays."
Bellinger is the best offensive player remaining in free agency but has had a slow market so far this offseason. Two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani was the biggest free agent to open the offseason and now Orix Buffaloes ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto is being heavily pursued by a handful of clubs. Bellinger's market likely will pick up once Yamamoto signs and it sounds like Toronto could be a club to look out for.
