Dodgers Reportedly 'Major Threat' To Yankees In Pursuit Of Young Superstar
The New York Yankees certainly are in an interesting spot.
New York had an underwhelming 2023 season and it sounds like it may end up going big this offseason to fill its roster holes. The Yankees have plenty of money to spend and have been linked to multiple star free agents. New York also has the prospect capital needed to get a major trade done and has been in contact with the San Diego Padres about a possible blockbuster trade for superstar Juan Soto.
One player who has come up the most in rumors swirling around the Yankees certainly is Orix Buffaloes phenom, Yoshinobu Yamamoto. New York needs to improve the starting rotation and has been one of the most active pursuers of Yamamoto. The 25-year-old is going to have a massive market this offseason and one team that reportedly is a "major threat" to the Yankees' chances of landing him is the New York Yankees, according to SNY's Andy Martino.
"The Dodgers are believed to be a strong contender for Yamamoto, too. If LAD does not end up with (Shohei Ohtani), that's a major threat to Yankees/Mets chances," Martino said.
New York has been linked to Yamamoto on numerous occasions and is widely viewed as one of the favorites to land him this offseason. He's the exact type of player the Yankees need to bring in. He will be expensive, but if the Yankees could pair him with Gerrit Cole, they immediately would have one of the best rotations on paper.
The Yankees have some serious work to do and it sounds like it will have stiff competition for their top choice free agent.
