He could return to New York, but likely not to the Bronx.

According to Mark Sanchez of The New York Post, ex-New York Yankees third baseman Gio Urshela is drawing interest from the Mets.

Urshela played for the Yankees from 2019-2021 and performed well both offensively and defensively. In 291 games, Urshela hit .292 with a .815 OPS and 41 home runs.

The Yankees traded Urshela to the Minnesota Twins with Gary Sanchez in March of 2022 in the deal that brought Josh Donaldson, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Ben Rortvedt to the Bronx,

Urshela produced a solid season with the Twins in 2022, but moved on to the Los Angeles Angels in 2023. The 32-year-old got off to a strong start last season, but saw his campaign end early due to a broken pelvis in June.

Luckily, Urshela's broken pelvis did not require surgery and he has been playing in the Colombian Winter League this offseason.

The Mets initially intended on addressing third base internally in 2024, but a torn ACL for Ronny Mauricio changed those plans.

Urshela is mostly known for his glove, but he has proven to be able to produce at the plate over the past several seasons.

The Mets have also shown interest in Justin Turner, but the 39-year-old is more of a DH at this stage in his career.
