Ex-Yankees Utility Man Listed As Possible Offseason Trade Candidate By MLB Insider
One former member of the New York Yankees reportedly could find himself playing elsewhere in 2024.
It's sure to be an exciting offseason as many big name players are expected to be on the move. The 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline was somewhat slow as more teams than ever saw themselves as postseason hopefuls with an extra playoff spot in both leagues. Although that was the case, there's sure to be plenty of action this offseason.
Veteran ESPN insider Jeff Passan even gave a list of people he believes could be offseason trade candidates on the "Baseball Is Dead" podcast and one player who could be on the move is former Yankees utility man Brandon Drury.
"I'm extremely excited as I'm putting together my super nerdy spreadsheet that I have all year, Passan said. "I have a spreadsheet that says trade candidates and in trade candidates it says Juan Soto, Tyler Glasnow, Pete Alonso, Shane Bieber, Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, Max Fried, Paul Goldschmidt, Brandon Drury, Mike Trout, Alex Verdugo, (and) Willy Adames. There are a lot of big names who could be moved this offseason."
Drury has been a journeyman throughout his career but has spent the entire 2023 campaign with the Los Angeles Angels and has impressed slashing .258/.302/.482 with 24 home runs and 80 RBIs in 122 games played. It's unclear who could be interested in swinging a deal for Drury, but New York could be a possible fit. The Yankees will be extremely active this offseason and it couldn't hurt to add someone who has spent time in the organization -- although in a very short stint -- and who can play all over the field. Plus, Drury's contract for the 2024 season is very affordable at just $8.5 million so he could give the club more flexibility to spend elsewhere.
A trade to New York may be unlikely, but it sounds like Drury could be on the move.
