The New York Yankees are hoping to put together a much better season in 2024 than they had last year when they finishing second-to-last in the division.

They landed Juan Soto in a blockbuster deal and signed Marcus Stroman to fortify their starting rotation as they get other members of the pitching staff back healthy.

It's an important year for the Yankees and they hope to deliver.

New York has been searching for that missing roster piece since they last won the World Series in 2009.

After making an under-the-radar trade with the Toronto Blue Jays that landed them Gio Urshela, it didn't seem like this move would amount to anything that could help them contend.

However, in 2019, the third baseman put together his best season to date when slashing .314/.355/.534 with 21 home runs and 74 RBI across 132 games.

He was a major factor in them winning 103 games and making it to the American League Championship Series.

It looked like the Yankees found their third baseman of the future.

This continued in the COVID-shortened 2020 season when he put up his career-best OPS+ of 137, but after Urshela had a down year in 2021 that saw New York get eliminated in the Wild Card round, the front office shipped him out to the Minnesota Twins.

He had a bounce back season with them, slashing .285/.338/.429 and an OPS+ of 119, but he was traded after the year once again, this time to the Los Angeles Angels.

Unfortunately for the former Yankees star, he fractured his pelvis and missed the rest of 2023 after playing in only 62 games.

Urshela was searching for his next team this offseason and Jeff Passan of ESPN reports he's finally found it after agreeing to a one-year, $1.5 million deal with the Detroit Tigers.

According to the insider, he'll get the opportunity to play at third base, while also being used at other positions across the infield.

Urshela's tenure in New York came to an abrupt end after the front office seemingly made a panic move that sent him out of town.

He was once a fan favorite, so it's good to see him get another opportunity to play Major League Baseball this year.
