The New York Yankees are off to a scorching start, going 12-4 in their first 16 games. After missing the postseason a year ago, the expectation is for the Yankees to win the American League East and have a chance to make the World Series in October.

Anything else would be looked at as a massive failure.

While it's impossible to judge a season off 16 games, New York has done everything they can in the early stages to prove they are a different team than they were in 2023. If this play can continue, they should find themselves in a favorable position to make the postseason and even win the division.

They have played this well despite Gerrit Cole not pitching yet.

ESPN released their 2024 MLB predictions two weeks into the season and one of their takes won't have fans happy. AJ Mass believes the Yankees won't make the postseason. Not only did Mass write that, but he adds that the New York Mets will make the playoffs in 2024.

Mass explains that while the Mets aren't the better team, the American League East is a tough division that's going to come down to the wire. He adds that they had five of their first 10 wins come by one run and the lineup had been shutout twice in 12 games.

While New York has won close games, that's not a knock on them. If anything, that should be a promising sign moving forward that they can capitalize when it matters most.

The Yankees will have an opportunity to separate themselves in the AL East this week, taking on the Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays.
