Juan Soto Gives Intriguing Update On Signing Extension With Yankees
Newly acquired superstar outfielder Juan Soto had his introductory press conference with the New York Yankees on Tuesday. The meeting was held over Zoom as reporters joined virtually instead of at Yankee Stadium.
Soto, who recently turned 25, is the player that the fan base has been looking for. New York has been desperate for a second star next to Aaron Judge and they got exactly that.
Not only did they get a star, but there's an argument to be made that this is the biggest deal in recent memory for the Yankees. Outside of Alex Rodriguez, the team hasn't made a deal like this in quite some time.
Soto seems excited to be in the Big Apple and everything he said should give the front office and fan base confidence that he could return in 2025. The left-handed slugger only has one year left on his contract.
When asked about his contract, he gave an encouraging answer. Bryan Hoch reported the following:
"They know where to call and who to talk to."
Given the likelihood that money shouldn't be an issue for the Yankees re-signing Soto, they have to feel confident in their chances of doing so. With the haul they gave up, they gave a sense of confidence that they could retain him.
Despite the contract talks, Soto has his sights on a World Series, expressing that's the biggest goal coming into the 2024 season. He had the following to say, according to YES Network:
"It's been the same mindset since 2018 when I got to the league. Winning. It's all I care about."
New York is looking to get back into the winner's circle themselves and adding Soto should help them in their path.
