Ex-Yankees 1B Luke Voit Signs MiLB Deal With Brewers

New York traded Voit last March. He split his 2022 season between the Padres and Nationals.

Luke Voit has found a new opportunity with the Brewers.

Milwaukee has signed the former Yankees first baseman to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training, according to MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy. Voit played for New York from 2018-2021 before being traded to the Padres last March in a deal for minor league pitcher Justin Lange.

San Diego then flipped Voit to the Nationals after 82 games. The 32-year-old was part of the package that sent Juan Soto to San Diego.

Voit played in a career-high 135 games between his two 2022 clubs. His slash line (.226/.308/.402) included some career-lows, but he still managed 69 RBI and 22 home runs, the same amount he hit when he led the majors in longballs during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

Injuries derailed Voit’s 2021 campaign, however, and the Yankees ultimately traded for the defensively superior, lefty swinging Anthony Rizzo. Rizzo is entering his second full season as New York’s first baseman after re-signing over the offseason and clubbing 32 dingers in 2022.

The Yankees initially acquired Voit in a July 2019 trade that sent relievers Giovanny Gallegos and Chasen Shreve to the Cardinals. Thought of as a minor move at the time, Voit quickly became a fan favorite and took over at first base. He slashed .333/.405/.689 with 14 homers and 33 RBI in just 39 games with New York that year.

Voit added another 21 home runs in 2019, the only other season in which he’s played in more than 100 games.

Voit is a career .254/.342/.476 slasher and is five homers short of 100.
