MLB Insider Links Mike Trout to New York Yankees
So you're saying there's a chance?
MLB insider Jon Heyman reported that if three-time MVP winner Mike Trout goes on the trading block this winter, the New York Yankees could be a team of interest.
In addition to the Yankees, Heyman listed Trout's hometown Philadelphia Phillies as another possible landing destination.
Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY recently reported that the Los Angeles Angels would consider trading Trout if he wanted out.
But as of this week, Heyman says the Angels and Trout haven't talked about whether he wants to be traded, and no teams have called about him.
That said, the Angels have made the postseason just once since Trout debuted in 2011. It would not be surprising if his patience has run out, and he desires to be moved to a contender now that he is 32-years-old.
Trout still has seven-years, $35.45 million per year left on his contract, which a rival executive told Heyman the Angels would have to pay down.
Heyman also suggested that the Yankees could exchange big contract for big contract with the Angels by sending Giancarlo Stanton to Los Angeles. However, that likely wouldn't work for the Angels.
The Yankees are in need of more star power beyond Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole, and trading for Trout would put them back in the conversation as contenders.
With Shohei Ohtani likely departing from the Angels in free agency this winter, Trout could follow suit via trade, and the Yankees are one organization that could have interest.
