MLB Insider Links Superstar Closer To New York Yankees
The New York Yankees are still looking for more pitching, whether that comes in the form of another starter or a reliever.
According to MLB insider Jim Bowden of The Athletic, the Yankees' best match is superstar closer Josh Hader.
Hader is reportedly seeking a deal that exceeds New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz's five-year, $102 million contract.
The Yankees have already added Juan Soto, Trent Grisham, Alex Verdugo and Marcus Stroman this offseason, but they still must bolster their pitching staff.
If they do not acquire an additional starter, Hader would make their bullpen one of the best units, if not the best in all of baseball.
By signing Hader, the left-hander would become the team's closer, shifting Clay Holmes to a setup man role. The Yankees also traded Michael King to the San Diego Padres in the Soto deal, and could lost free agent Wandy Peralta.
The Yankees made an offer to Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell, but it was declined by his camp. While signing Snell seems unlikely at this point, the Yankees could now go after Hader to make their bullpen an elite unit.
