MLB Insider Would Be 'Shocked' If Superstar Didn't Sign With Yankees, Giants, Or Cubs

New York could end up actually landing its top target in free agency this offseason

The New York Yankees will be in hot pursuit of one of the best players in free agency this offseason.

New York needs some help in the outfield. The Yankees already have made it clear that it would like to bring in at least one outfielder and possibly two. Luckily for the Yankees, there is a very solid option available. Chicago Cubs star Cody Bellinger is a free agent and has been linked to the Yankees many times over the last year in free agency as well as a trade candidate.

It wouldn't be too surprising to see him sign with the Yankees at this point and the New York Post's Jon Heyman would be "shocked" if Bellinger doesn't sign with New York, the Chicago Cubs, or the San Francisco Giants.

"Cody Bellinger has really reestablished himself as a major star," Heyman said. "I think he has the most defined market at this point because I'm going to be shocked if he's not a Yankee, a Cub, or a Giant."

Bellinger is the exact type of player the Yankees need. New York needs more pop in the middle of the lineup and defensive help in the outfield. Bellinger would provide both. Plus, he is a left-handed batter which the Yankees also drastically need.

A move for Bellinger almost makes too much sense for the Yankees. New York certainly will have competition for Bellinger, but the Cubs and Giants both are expected to be in on the Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes. If either club lands Ohtani, it would make a move even easier for the Yankees. We should find out shortly if New York can land its man.
