New York Yankees Acquire Former Top Prospect in Trade With Rangers
They added another bullpen piece.
The New York Yankees acquired former top pitching prospect Spencer Howard from the Texas Rangers in exchange for cash considerations.
FanSided's Robert Murray was the first to report on this deal.
The move for Howard occurred at the last second before the 6 p.m. trade deadline on Tuesday.
Howard was a top prospect in the Philadelphia Phillies system before getting traded to the Rangers in 2021 for Kyle Gibson and Ian Kennedy.
Howard has struggled both in the major leagues and minor leagues. This season, he held a 5.40 ERA in Triple-A with the Rangers. He also has a career 7.20 ERA in the big-leagues.
Howard was once projected to be a front line starting pitcher, but he will instead try and resurrect his career as a reliever with the Yankees.
The Yankees did little-to-nothing ahead of the trade deadline, acquiring Howard and another reliever in Keynan Middleton from the Chicago White Sox.
