The Yankees are hoping their first baseman won't have to join their long list of injured players.

On Sunday, Anthony Rizzo was scratched from the Yankees' lineup against the Boston Red Sox due to a "cranky" back, per manager Aaron Boone.

The good news is that Rizzo is expected to play on Tuesday. According to Boone, it was just “something we wanted to stay ahead of.”

Rizzo dealt with a back issue during the 2021 season when the Yankees acquired him at the trade deadline from the Chicago Cubs.

Luckily, the Yankees believe they got out in front of Rizzo's back and it should not be an issue moving forward.

This past week, the Yankees announced that Carlos Rodon (forearm strain), Lou Trivino (elbow strain) and Tommy Kahnle (right biceps tendinitis) will all begin the season on the IL.

In addition to this trio of hurlers, center fielder Harrison Bader will miss at least six weeks with an oblique strain.

The Yankees are taking the cautious route with Rizzo, as they can ill afford to lose any more players to the IL.
