New York Yankees Expect Rodon to Go Against Nationals
The New York Yankees have set their pitching probables for this week’s home series with the Washington Nationals and are preparing for the return of starter Carlos Rodón.
Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s games are set for 7:05 p.m. eastern, with Thursday’s game set for 1:05 p.m. After that game, the Yankees head to Tampa for a three-game series with the Rays.
Rodón is penciled in as the starter for Tuesday’s game, per MLB.com. He was placed on the 15-day injured list on Aug. 7 with a left hamstring strain and is eligible to be activated on Tuesday. The Yankees have already optioned relief pitcher Greg Weissert to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in anticipation of Rodón’s return.
Rodón (1-4, 7.33) last pitched on Aug. 6 against Houston, when he left the game after 2.2 innings pitched with the injury. He gave up three hits, five earned runs and two walks. He struck out five.
He missed the first three months of the season with a left forearm strain and didn’t return until July.
The Nationals expect to start Josiah Gray (7-10, 3.96). He threw last Tuesday against Boston, giving up five hits and five earned runs in three innings while taking the loss. He struck out four and walked three. He is 1-4 with a 5.77 ERA in his last seven games, all starts.
Luis Severino (2-8, 7.98) is expected to start Wednesday’s game on seven days’ rest. He started against Atlanta last Tuesday, taking the loss after giving up five hits, three earned runs and two walks in four innings. He struck out five.
Severino is 1-5 with a 10.41 ERA in his last seven starts.
MacKenzie Gore (6-9, 4.38) is expected to start on Wednesday. The left-hander took a no-decision against Boston on Wednesday, throwing 6.1 innings of one-hit baseball against the red-hot Red Sox. He walked two and struck out seven.
In his last seven games he is 2-2 with a 4.11 ERA.
The Yankees have not set a probable starter for Thursday’s finale. The Nationals expect to start left-hander Patrick Corbin (8-11, 4.71), who won his last start against Boston on Thursday. He threw six innings of four-hit baseball, allowing one run and no walks. He struck out six.
