The fences appear to have been mended.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports, the New York Yankees and free agent starting pitcher Marcus Stroman have mutual interest in each other.

Despite an initial report on Sunday that revealed Stroman and his agent reached out to the Yankees, but New York declined to make an offer, Nightengale is now reporting otherwise.

Stroman and the Yankees have a messy history, as Stroman has publicly expressed his disdain for the organization after they opted against trading for him at the 2019 trade deadline.

The word is that Stroman, a Long Island native, wanted to pitch for the Yankees when the Toronto Blue Jays were shopping him.

But with the Yankees seeking a front line starter to complement AL Cy Young winning ace Gerrit Cole, their options are limited, and Stroman is one of the best available hurlers left on the market.

The Yankees tried signing Japanese superstar Yoshinobu Yamamoto, but failed to do so, as he inked a 12-year, $325 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers last month.

Stroman has proven he can pitch in New York, spending a season and a half with the Mets, where he posted a 3.21 ERA in 44 starts.

For his career, the righty has made the All-Star team twice, and holds a 3.65 ERA in 223 starts.

Stroman, 32, spent last season with the Chicago Cubs, posting a 3.95 ERA in 25 starts to go along with 119 strikeouts. He opted out of his deal to become a free agent in the offseason.
