New York Yankees Interested in Veteran Outfielder
The Yankee killer.
The New York Yankees are interested in trading for Colorado Rockies outfielder Randall Grichuk, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
"The Yankees are closely monitoring the corner outfield market, and while Cody Bellinger seems like a natural fit, another name that has come up per sources is Randal Grichuk of the Rockies. He’s an impending free agent making a little more than $3M for the rest of the season," Feinsand tweeted.
The Yankees just lost two out of three games to Grichuk's Rockies over the weekend, and the outfielder went deep for the 18th time in his career against the Bronx Bombers. This total is tied with Rafael Devers for the most homers hit by a player against the Yankees since 2018.
The Yankees are in desperate need of corner outfield help. Superstar Aaron Judge still has not timetable to return from his toe injury, and the Yankees entered the season with a hole in left field.
Although Grichuk, 31, only has five home runs this season, he is hitting .300 with a .837 OPS in 203 at-bats.
The Yankees have found themselves in last place in the American League East after their latest loss on Sunday. They're also two games out of the final Wild Card spot.
If the Yankees can't acquire Bellinger, Grichuk would be a solid option to slot into left field.
