New York Yankees Interested in Trading for Division Rivals' Center Fielder
The New York Yankees need to make a move or two for an outfielder during the 2023-24 MLB offseason. The team has multiple areas to address, but none more important than the outfield issues.
With Aaron Judge dealing with his injury from last year, Stanton not being able to play the field most days, and Jasson Dominguez having Tommy John surgery, the Yankees don't have a guy that can play the outfield every game.
New York has been searching for a left fielder for what seems like a decade at this point. There will be options for them to figure that out and it's expected that they do just that. The center field position will also need to be addressed. The point is, outside of Judge in right field, the Yankees need outfielders.
According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, the Yankees have been in contact with the Tampa Bay Rays about Manuel Margot.
"The Yankees, seeking to add both a center fielder and left fielder, have engaged the Rays in multiple conversations this offseason about Manuel Margot, according to sources briefed on the talks but not authorized to speak publicly. The Rays are speaking to other teams about Margot as well."
Margot isn't a name that's going to move the needle for fans. However, he's a serviceable big leaguer who has performed for most of his career. The issue with Margot is similar to the issue the Yankees have already dealt with. He's played in an average of 104 games during the past three seasons and has dealt with hamstring issues, a right knee sprain, and underwent surgery on his elbow on August 15.
With those injuries, the Yankees might be able to make a move for a low-value prospect.
