WATCH: New York Yankees' Kiner-Falefa Steals Home Against Mets
NEW YORK - The unthinkable has happened.
In the top of the seventh inning of Game 2 of the Subway Series, New York Yankees utility man Isiah Kiner-Falefa stole home on New York Mets reliever Brooks Raley.
With two outs, Kiner-Falefa took off down the line on a 2-1 pitch, which was thrown away to the backstop by Raley.
The run extended the Yankees' lead to 3-1 and capped off a two-run inning.
According to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, Kiner-Falefa was the first Yankee to steal home since Didi Gregorius on August 27, 2016.
Last season, the Mets were known for their crisp play and attention to detail, but that hasn't been the case with this 2023 team.
The Mets allowed the Yankees to score the go-ahead run earlier in the inning when Jeff McNeil threw a ball away at first base on a double play attempt, which allowed a Yankee runner to come around to score.
The Mets entered play on Wednesday with a 31-35 record. The team with the highest payroll in baseball history has not played up to expectations so far this season.
As for the Yankees, they were 39-29 entering play on Wednesday and are looking to sweep the Subway Series.
