Yankees' Jose Trevino Dealing With Wrist Injury
The Yankees have another injured catcher.
Jose Trevino is dealing with a right wrist sprain that he suffered last Thursday, as manager Aaron Boone told reporters.
The good news is the Yankees don't expect it to be serious. Boone expects Trevino to be ready by Opening Day.
Trevino first felt pain in his wrist after a swing in an at-bat against the Boston Red Sox six days ago. This led to scans, which revealed the sprain.
“He’s just got some inflammation in there,” Boone said after a 10-3 win over the Blue Jays at Steinbrenner Field. “It should probably only be a couple more days.”
According to Boone, Trevino did not require an injection in his wrist.
While Trevino isn't expected to be out for long, the Yankees have become razor thin at the catching position in Spring Training.
Backup catcher Kyle Higashioka is playing for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. Ben Rortvedt underwent shoulder surgery, Austin Wells fractured a rib and Josh Breaux had an elbow issue before being sent to minor league camp.
Luckily, Trevino, a 2022 All-Star, should be good to go by the start of the season.
“I’m not too worried about it right now for the season,” Boone said. “So I’m hoping by the weekend, he’s back in there.”
