Yankees' Josh Donaldson to Miss Couple Weeks With Hamstring Strain
Not the news they wanted to hear.
Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson has a Grade 1 right hamstring strain, which will sideline him for a couple of weeks, as manager Aaron Boone told reporters.
Donaldson played five innings at third base and went 1-for-3 in a rehab game for the Double-A Somerset Patriots on Tuesday night. However, he was still experiencing tightness, which led to an MRI. This revealed the hamstring strain.
The hope was that Donaldson would be able to be activated on Wednesday after just one rehab game, but his setback will now keep him sidelined for a few weeks.
Donaldson first landed on the injured list on April 6.
Prior to getting injured he was slashing an anemic .125/.176/.313 in five games.
Donaldson is coming off the worst season of his career, his first with the Yankees, in which he batted .222 with a .682 OPS, 15 home runs and 62 RBIs in 132 games.
Once he is healthy again, the Yankees are hoping he can bounce-back to productive hitter he has been throughout his career.
With Donaldson out, DJ LeMahieu, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Oswald Peraza and Oswaldo Cabrera have all seen time at third base.
