New York Yankees Linked to Cardinals Outfielder
It's no secret that the New York Yankees are looking for outfield help ahead of the August 1 trade deadline.
One name that has come up as a trade target for the Bronx Bombers is St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson, per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
Carlson is about to lose his left field job when Tyler O'Neill returns from the injured list. This could pave the way for the Cardinals, who have stated they are sellers, to deal him to the Yankees.
Carlson is slashing .243/.350/.376 with a .726 OPS, five home runs and 21 RBIs this season for St. Louis.
Carlson would bring switch-hitting pop to the Yankee lineup, as well as the ability to play all three outfield spots.
It remains to be seen what the Cardinals' asking price will be for Carlson, who is just 24-years-old and has three more years of control.
In addition to Carlson, the Yankees have also been showing interest in former National League MVP Cody Bellinger and Colorado Rockies outfielder Randall Grichuk.
The Yankees are 50-45 and 2.5 games out of the final Wild Card spot in the American League. The hope is that with reinforcements the Yankees will get a jolt of energy, which can help them climb back into the postseason race.
