New York Yankees MVP Trade Target Off Market
He's off the board.
New York Yankees trade target Cody Bellinger is no longer an option for the Bronx Bombers.
As reported by ESPN's Jesse Rogers, the red-hot Chicago Cubs will not be trading Bellinger ahead of the deadline.
The Cubs have won eight games in a row and have pulled within 3.5 games of the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central, and three games of the final Wild Card spot.
For that, the Cubs will not be selling Bellinger, who is playing on a one-year deal.
The Yankees loved Bellinger and felt he was the perfect fit to fill their hole in left field. The former 2019 NL MVP is slashing .315/.368/.540 with a .908 OPS, 142 OPS+, 15 home runs and 46 RBIs on the season.
Instead, New York will now have to pivot to possible names such as Randall Grichuk, Lane Thomas, Dylan Carlson and Tyler O'Neill to fill their void in left field.
In addition to the outfield, the Yankees could also look to add at third base and Jeimer Candelario is a realistic trade option. New York has shown interest in the Nationals' third baseman.
With two days left to go until the deadline, the Yankees have work to do in order to improve their ball club. And one of their best trade targets will now not be traded.
