New York Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera Sports New Look With Tooth Necklace

NEW YORK - He's wearing what around his neck?

New York Yankees utility man Oswaldo Cabrera was wearing a tooth necklace when he entered Tuesday night's game against the New York Mets.

Why is that?

It's actually his grandmother's tooth. 

"File this one under you probably won’t see this every day," YES Network reporter Meredith Marakovits explained during the broadcast. "(He) walked by me in the clubhouse today and I said, ‘What’s on your necklace? Is that a tooth?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, it’s a tooth. My mom told me to wear it.’ It’s his grandma Anna’s tooth."

According to Marakovits, whatever Cabrera's mom told him to do he was going to do.

"He’s a good son, but I’ve never seen that before," she said.

Cabrera subbed in for Josh Donaldson, who pinch-hit for Jake Bauers late in the game. He received one at-bat, but struck out. 

Cabrera, who made the Yankees' Opening Day roster, has struggled mightily this season. In 58 games, he is slashing .195/.243/.305 with a .548 OPS, four home runs and 18 RBIs. 

The Yankees optioned Cabrera to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on June 1, but recalled him two days later.

The Yankees beat the Mets by a score of 7-6 on Tuesday night in Game 1 of the Subway Series. 

Manager Aaron Boone provided an update on superstar outfielder Aaron Judge on Wednesday, which was the same as the previous updates; It's unknown when Judge will be able to begin baseball activities. 

The Yankees are 39-29 and take on the Mets in Game 2 of the Subway Series on Wednesday night, as Justin Verlander opposes Gerrit Cole.
