Yankees Set Pitching Rotation for Rays Series
The New York Yankees have set their pitching probables for this weekend’s road trip to Tampa Bay.
Friday’s opener is set for 6:40 p.m. eastern. Saturday’s game will start at 4:10 p.m. and Sunday’s finale will start at 1:40 p.m.
Gerrit Cole (10-4, 3.03) is expected to start for the Yankees on Friday. He took the loss in his last start against Boston on Saturday. He lasted just four innings, giving up seven hits and six earned runs. He struck out one and walked four. He’s been in a rut, record-wise, in his last seven starts, going just 1-2 with a 3.53 ERA. But he’s struck out 47 against nine walks in that span.
Zack Eflin (13-7, 3.58) is expected to start for the Rays. He won his last start against the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday, throwing six innings and giving up four hits and one earned run. He struck out four and walked one. In his last seven games he has gone 3-3 with a 4.50 ERA but has struck out 31 and walked four.
Clarke Schmidt (8-7, 4.68) is expected to start on Saturday for the Yankees. He took a no-decision on Sunday against Boston, during which he threw 5.2 innings and allowed four hits and two earned runs. He walked two and struck out eight. In his last seven starts, he is 4-1 with a 5.40 ERA, with 34 strikeouts and nine walks.
Tyler Glasnow (6-4, 3.35) is expected to start for the Rays on Saturday. He took the loss in his last start against the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday, as he threw six innings, giving up eight hits and five earned runs. He struck out seven and walked none. He is 4-2 with a 2.42 in his last seven starts. He’s struck out 54 and walked 10 in that span.
Carlos Rodón (1-4, 6.27) is expected to start on Sunday. In his return from the 15-day injured list on Tuesday, as he threw six innings and allowed six hits and one earned run. He struck out one and walked none. In his seven games this season he has struck out 26 and walked 18.
Zack Littell (2-4, 4.27) is expected to start on Sunday for Tampa Bay. The right-hander took a no-decision on Tuesday against Colorado, as he went 5.1 innings and gave up seven hits and four earned runs. He struck out six and walked one. In his last seven games (six starts), he is 2-3 with a 3.24 ERA, 28 strikeouts and two walks.
After wrapping up the series with the Rays, the Yankees head to Detroit for a four-game series with the Tigers that starts on Monday.
