New York Yankees Seeking Reunion With Star Pitcher

The New York Yankees are reportedly seeking a reunion with their former star pitcher.

There could be a reunion this offseason.

According to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, the New York Yankees would like to bring back starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery.

Montgomery spent 5 1/2 seasons with the Yankees from 2017-2022, posting a 3.94 ERA in 97 starts. General manager Brian Cashman dealt him to the St. Louis Cardinals at the 2022 trade deadline for center fielder Harrison Bader.

Since being traded by the Yankees, the left-hander has been nothing short of excellent. He also helped the Texas Rangers win the World Series last season.

For that, Montgomery has been highly sought after on the free agent market and is looking for a big pay day. The word is that he is looking to a deal comparable to the six-year, $162 million contract that Carlos Rodon received from the Yankees last year.

The Yankees went hard for superstar Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, but the 25-year-old signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers for more money. However, reuniting with Montgomery would be a solid Plan B for the Yankees, who are trying to pair the 31-year-old with Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole once again.

As Heyman went on to report, it is unknown how involved the Yankees are on free agent and NL Cy Young winner Blake Snell. It appears that Montgomery is now their top choice with Yamamoto off the market.
