New York Yankees Set Pitching Probables for Detroit Tigers Series
The New York Yankees have set their pitching probables for this week’s road trip to Detroit.
The first three games of the series are set for 6:40 p.m. eastern, with Thursday’s finale set for 1:10 p.m.
Luis Severino (3-8, 7.26) is expected to start Monday’s opener. He claimed the victory in his last start against Washington on Wednesday, giving up just one hit in 6.2 innings. He walked two and struck out two while not giving up a run. In his last seven starts he is 2-4 with a 7.11 ERA, with 26 strikeouts and 13 walks in 31.2 innings.
Reese Olson (2-5, 5.29) is expected to start against Severino on Monday. In his last start against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday he threw 4.2 innings and gave up four hits and six earned runs while taking a no-decision. He struck out seven and walked three. In his last seven starts he is 1-3 with a 6.49 ERA.
The Yankees expect to start Michael King (3-5, 3.13) on Tuesday. He will make his third start, but his 43rd appearance, of the season. He started for the Yankees on Thursday against Washington, where he threw 2.2 innings and gave up one hit and no runs. He struck out three and walked two.
The Tigers are expected to start Tarik Skubal (3-2, 4.06) against the Yankees on Tuesday. He has started nine games this season and threw six innings in his last start against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday. He gave up six hits and four earned runs, while walking one and striking out seven. In his last seven starts, spanning 36.1 innings, he has 39 strikeouts against six walks.
Gerrit Cole (11-4, 2.95) is expected to start for the Yankees on Wednesday. He took the win in his last start against Tampa Bay on Friday. He threw 7.2 innings, giving up three hits and one earned run. He struck out 11 and walked none. He is 2-2 with a 3.40 ERA in his last seven starts, with 47 strikeouts and eight walks in 45 innings.
The Tigers have not set a probable starter for Wednesday’s game, per MLB.com.
Clarke Schmidt (8-8, 4.51) is expected to start on Thursday for the Yankees. He took a loss on Saturday against Tampa Bay. He threw 6.2 innings, giving up six hits and one earned run while he struck out five and walked none. He’s lost two of his last three starts and is 3-2 with a 5.05 ERA in his last seven starts.
