New York Yankees Set Pitching Probables for Houston Astros Series
The New York Yankees have set their pitching probables for this week’s road trip to face the Houston Astros.
Friday’s game starts at 8:10 p.m. eastern, while the final two games starts at 7:10 p.m.
Carlos Rodón (1-4, 5.97) is expected to make his ninth start of the season when he takes the mound for the Yankees on Friday.
He made his last start on Sunday against Tampa Bay, as he went 4.2 innings and gave up four hits and two earned runs. He walked two and struck out seven. In his last seven starts, spanning 32.1 innings, he’s struck out 31 and walked 18.
In his last outing against Houston on Aug. 6 he lasted just 2.2 innings, giving up three hits and five runs, before leaving with left hamstring strain that put him on the 15-day injured list. He didn’t pitch again until Aug. 22.
The Astros expect to start Justin Verlander (10-6, 3.06) on Friday, which will mark the second time the Yankees have seen him since early August.
He claimed the victory in his last start against Detroit on Sunday, throwing five innings and giving up two hits and no runs. He walked two and struck out seven. It was his fourth straight win since re-joining the Astros at the trade deadline.
Right-hander Luis Severino (4-8, 6.64) is expected to start for the Yankees on Saturday. He has won his last two starts, including a victory over Detroit on Monday. He went seven innings, giving up five hits and no runs. He struck out eight and walked none. He now has 31 strikeouts and 10 walks in his last 31.1 innings, which spans his last seven appearances.
Hunter Brown (10-9, 4.47) is expected to start on Saturday for the Astros. The rookie is coming off a win last Saturday against Detroit, his hometown team. He gave up four hits and two earned runs in five innings, allowing two walks and striking out nine. He is 4-3 with a 5.08 ERA in his last seven games, six of which have been starts. He has struck out 34 and walked 10 in that span.
The Yankees are expected to start Michael King (3-5, 2.96), who has recently moved into a rotation role for the Yankees. He’s appeared in 43 games this season and has six saves but will be making just his fourth start on Sunday.
He continues to make progress with the move. In his last start against Detroit on Tuesday, he threw four innings and gave up three hits and no runs. He struck out five and walked none. He threw a season-high 61 pitches.
The Astros are expected to Cristian Javier (9-2, 4.66) in Sunday’s finale. He is coming off a no-decision against Boston on Monday. He threw just four innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs. He walked six and struck out four. While he is 2-1 with a 5.40 ERA in his last seven games, he hasn’t thrown six innings in a start since July 28.
After Sunday’s finale, the Yankees head home to start a three-game series with the Detroit Tigers on Monday.
