The New York Yankees were dealt some heavy news when they learned their top prospect suffered a torn UCL in his elbow and could be sidelined for an extended period of time.

Now, it's official that their young star will get surgery to repair the torn ligament he suffered in his throwing elbow.

Chris Kirschner of The Athletic has reported that Jasson Dominguez will undergo Tommy John surgery on Wednesday, Sept. 20 according to manager Aaron Boone.

It's a huge blow to the Yankees who will be without their No. 2 prospect for at least nine months.

Dominguez took the league by storm after being promoted to New York's Major League roster after playing nine games for their Triple-A affiliate.

In eight games with the Yankees, the outfielder hit .258/.303/.677 with four home runs and seven RBI. He was making a strong case to be included on the 2024 Opening Day roster, despite his lack of experience.

Outfield is something that New York was looking to address during the offseason, but it seemed like they might have had their answer in Dominguez, who lived up to the hype that was placed on him.

After being signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2019, he was one of the most hyped international prospects ever and quickly climbed the ranks of the Yankees pipeline.

Nicknamed "The Martian", the 20-year-old prospect is a switch hitter who can hit for power and average.

His emergence and immediate impact at the MLB level gave hope that they could have another special homegrown talent to pair with Aaron Judge.

Now, all eyes will be on his recovery and what type of player he becomes after repairing a torn ligament in his throwing elbow at such a young age.
