New York Yankees Superstar Nominated for Roberto Clemente Award
On Friday, Major League Baseball announced all 30 nominees for the Roberto Clemente Award on MLB Network. Each team has a representative that will be in the running for what's considered to be the most prestigious individual honor in the league.
The award recognizes the MLB player who best represents the game through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.
Aaron Judge is the nominee for the New York Yankees franchise.
MLB.com writes, "Judge is known for his leadership on the field, but he works to be a responsible community leader, too, giving back to his communities both in the Bronx and in and around his hometown of Linden, Calif. His ALL RISE Foundation, created in 2018, has helped over 2,000 children in those communities through its mini-grant program, paying for registration and transportation to leadership conferences, holding baseball camps and supporting students in becoming responsible citizens through local organizations."
The superstar is one of the best players in the entire league. He's a five-time All-Star, has an AL MVP Award, an AL Rookie of the Year Award, three Silver Sluggers and has led the American League in home runs twice. He'll now be looking to add one of the most prestigious awards to his already full mantle.
Voting is now open for fans to select their favorite players or those who they think is most deserving. Voting will end on the last day of the regular season, Oct. 1.
The winner of the award will be honored at the 2023 World Series following the selection of the blue-ribbon panel made up of representatives from the Commissioner’s Office, Capital One, MLB-affiliated networks (MLB Network, FOX Sports, ESPN and TBS), MLB.com, the National Baseball Hall of Fame, as well as Clemente's children, Enrique, Luis and Roberto Clemente, Jr.
