New York Yankees To Pursue Juan Soto If Made Available At Deadline
The New York Yankees are looking to make a big splash at this year's trade deadline.
With Aaron Judge out indefinitely with a toe injury, the Yankees want to help fill that void left since their captain landed on the shelf in early-June.
By adding a major acquisition, the Yankees would not only be getting a much-needed reinforcement, but they'd also be strengthening their World Series odds for when Judge does return.
So, what star could the Yankees land at the deadline?
Rival teams believe the Yankees will pursue superstar outfielder Juan Soto if the San Diego Padres make him available at the trade deadline.
Sources say the Padres still haven't decided what they're going to do yet at the deadline, but if they don't turn their season around in the next few weeks they're going to be sellers.
Soto has one more year left on his deal, but it remains to be seen whether the Padres would sell him off just one year after making a monstrous blockbuster trade to acquire him from the Washington Nationals.
The Padres had to give up a large package of top prospects to land Soto, which would be the case if the Yankees traded for him this year.
The Yankees' package would likely start with rookie shortstop Anthony Volpe and include Jasson Dominguez, Austin Wells Roderick Arias and a number of other top prospects in their farm system.
Acquiring Soto would gut their farm system, but It'd be a win-now move for a Yankees team that is built with aging veterans in their primes.
The time is now for the Yankees to strike and revert back to being the World Series contenders they have been over the past several seasons. They'd all of a sudden become a powerhouse once more if they added Soto.
Soto would also be a perfect fit in the Bronx, with the ability to play left field or right field. He'd also solve a major hole in the middle of the Yankee lineup.
While It's unknown if the Padres will make Soto available, rival teams believe the Yankees are going to pursue him if he is.
