Padres Star Pitcher Reportedly Could Be Dealt; Yankees Could Make Move To Bolster Rotation

Should the Yankees take a chance at a potential blockbuster deal?

The New York Yankees likely will be extremely busy ahead of the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline.

New York hasn't been exactly what many expected it to be this season, but injuries certainly have been a major reason for it. The Yankees still are within range of a postseason spot and have reinforcements on the way shortly, including potentially 2022 American League Most Valuable Player Aaron Judge.

The Yankees have been rumored to be in the market for a new starting pitcher and one player that reportedly could be dealt is San Diego Padres star Blake Snell, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.

"They should swallow their pride and trade All-Star outfielder Juan Soto, getting back at least some of the value in the prospects they traded away in the first place to land him from the Washington Nationals," Nightengale said. "Yet, there has been no hint that he’s available. They instead are likely to shop All-Star closer Josh Hader and starter Blake Snell, barring a sudden and dramatic winning streak."

Snell has been one of, if not the best pitcher in all of baseball over the last two months and if he's dealt, could bring in a major haul for the Padres. New York has the prospect capital to get a deal done and could make perfect sense as a trade partner. Snell has plenty of American League East experience after spending the first five seasons of his career with the Tampa Bay Rays. New York has been connected to potential trade candidates like Chicago Cubs hurler Marcus Stroman or St. Louis Cardinals hurler Jack Flaherty. If Snell actually is going to get traded, why not take a swing at the best pitcher available?
