Projecting New York Yankees Selections for All-Star Game
The New York Yankees could have three players on the American League All-Star team if ESPN’s recent projections for next month’s Midsummer Classic are correct.
The Seattle Mariners will host the MLB All-Star Game on July 11.
ESPN projected one position player as a starter, one reserve and one pitcher.
Aaron Judge would get the nod as the starter, assuming he gets the votes to finish among the Top-3 in the outfield.
Judge is on the injured list right now after suffering a toe injury while colliding with a gate at Dodger Stadium.
ESPN did its projections before the injury and noted that despite a previous stint on the injured list that he was still leading the American League in home runs, slugging and OPS before his injury.
The reserve would be first baseman Anthony Rizzo. If he was selected, it would be his first appearance on an All-Star team since he was with the Chicago Cubs in 2016.
Rizzo is bouncing back from a 2022 in which he batted .224 in 130 games. He is hitting better than .280 this season, which would be his first time to bat .280 or better since 2017.
The pitcher is Gerrit Cole. He’s off to a great start, with a 7-0 record and a 2.82 ERA. In his fourth season with the Yankees, he’s made the All-Star team each of the past two seasons with New York.
