Yankees Are Speaking With Star Reliever About Possible Signing
It sounds like the New York Yankees could bring in a very intriguing reliever this offseason.
The Yankees already have improved the club in multiple ways this offseason, but still want to add to the bullpen before Spring Training comes around. New York is in a good spot, but if the club could land one or two high-leverage relievers, it likely would be able to hold its spot as the best bullpen in baseball.
New York has been linked to multiple relievers this offseason and currently are in touch with former Houston Astros stud Héctor Neris, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.
"Astros are in touch with Neris (1.71 ERA for them last year) but so are the Yankees, Rangers, and others (Mark Feinsand) mentioned NYY and Texas," Heyman said.
Neris has been linked to the Yankees on multiple occasions this offseason and a signing would go a long way for New York. The 34-year-old spent the last two seasons with the Astros and has been extremely impressive.
He logged a 1.71 ERA last season for Houston across 71 total appearances to go along with a 77-to-31 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 68 1/3 innings pitched. Neris compiled a 3.72 ERA in 2022 and had an eye-popping 79-to-17 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
If the Yankees could land Neris and someone like Wandy Peralta as well, New York would be in a very good spot heading into the 2024 campaign. The Yankees seemingly are going all in for the 2024 campaign, so why not land one of the best relievers available?
