The New York Yankees are in a precarious spot.

New York likely will be buyers ahead of the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline but the club currently has some massive contracts on its books and the farm system could use some work. The Yankees have plenty of talent, but with the way the team currently is constructed likely won't have a long window to compete for a World Series title unless things change.

This likely is the reason why New York will be buyers ahead of the trade deadline and why the club has been linked to seemingly any and every big name potentially available. There's less than a week to go until the trade deadline and the Yankees likely will make at least a move or two. The Yankees and general manager and senior vice president Brian Cashman reportedly are among the clubs under the most pressure heading into the trade deadline, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

"It’s doubtful owner Hal Steinbrenner will be willing to invest much more in this underachieving group," Rosenthal said. "It’s not at all clear he should. Cashman’s firing of hitting coach Dillon Lawson at the All-Star break was an acknowledgment of the team’s increasingly urgent position.

"The Yankees are not inclined to sell, in part because they have little to sell. The only way Cashman should give up top prospects is if he can acquire players under multi-year control. His additions at last year’s deadline — Frankie Montas, Scott Effross, Harrison Bader, Andrew Benintendi — all ended up injured at one point or another. Creative solutions are necessary, for this season and beyond."

New York has been linked to a plethora of players who could fill some of the club's immediate holes. The Yankees could use another outfielder and pitcher and a third baseman wouldn't hurt. New York has dealt with a wide range of injuries but should start getting healthier shortly. All in all, this is going to be an extremely important trade deadline for New York this season.
