Yankees Given Surprising Odds To Land Blue Jays Star Slugger After Strong Season
The New York Yankees already have improved their roster in a major way this offseason but there could still be moves on the horizon.
New York landed outfielders Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo, and Trent Grisham but still has plenty of work to do. The Yankees' biggest roster hole now is the starting rotation but the club still could use a little more pop in the lineup.
The Yankees currently are pursuing Orix Buffaloes ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto but if they were to miss out on the young star, they would have some money to spend elsewhere.
One position the Yankees could look to improve is at third base. New York likely will roll with D.J. LeMahieu at the spot, but there are some intriguing free agents available. Although a move could be considered unlikely at this point, New York has been given intriguing odds to land former Toronto Blue Jays slugger Matt Chapman.
The Yankees currently have the third-highest odds to land Chapman, according to BetOnline, at +400. This means that if you placed a $100 bet down on the Yankees to land Chapman, you would earn a $400 profit if they did sign the four-time Gold Glove Award winner.
Chapman was steady for the Blue Jays last season and clubbed 17 home runs, drove in 54 runs, and slashed .240/.330/.424, and earned his fourth Gold Glove Award. He will be expensive in free agency but could help the Yankees. His defense is top-tier and his offensive production certainly could help.
New York still needs to make a few moves before the 2024 season rolls around and Chapman would be a solid pickup if they missed out on Yamamoto.
