Yankees Given Surprising Odds To Land Superstar Free Agent This Winter
The New York Yankees need to make a statement this offseason after a disappointing 2023 campaign.
New York -- which boasts the most World Series titles in baseball history -- hasn't won a championship since 2009. The Yankees have been solid and typically a postseason threat but hasn't been able to get over the hump in almost 15 years. New York entered the 2023 campaign with high expectations and many even thought this could be the year, but the season fell apart and instead, the club won just 82 games and barely finished above last place in the American League East.
Something needs to be done. The Yankees have made it seem like the club actually will be making big changes this offseason and even has been linked to San Diego Padres star Juan Soto as a trade candidate. On top of Soto, New York already has been linked to multiple star players -- including two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani.
The Yankees have plenty of money to spend and have mentioned as a possible fit for the star for over a year, but the New York Post's Jon Heyman didn't give the club very high odds to actually land him.
"They need to do something big, and what a combo he’d make with Aaron Judge," Heyman said. "He’d love to hit at the Stadium but he’s said not to love pitching there. Odds: 22-1."
New York has the eighth-highest odds to land Ohtani, according to Heyman. The Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Francisco Giants are tied for the best odds from Heyman at 6-1.
Even if New York doesn't land Ohtani, something needs to be done. The Yankees should at least consider the two-way superstar this offseason.
