Yankees’ Hampton Shows Minors Now Pitching Rich In New Top 30 Rankings
Look at the Top 30 prospects for the New York Yankees and you will find plenty of offense. But look deeper and you’ll find a pitching-rich organization.
MLB Pipeline recently released its Yankees Top 30 prospects going into the 2024 season and 13 of the 30 prospects were pitchers. Ten of the are right-handers.
The top among them is Chase Hampton, who is ranked No. 4 and reached Double-A Somerset last season.
That’s a huge jump from last spring training when Hampton was ranked No. 26.
The Yankees selected Hampton in the sixth round in 2022 out of Texas Tech and he blossomed last season with a 4-3 record and a 3.66 ERA in 20 starts. He struck out 145 and walked 37. He also allowed hitters to bat .213 against him.
With the Yankees set in their Major League rotation in 2024, Hampton can focus on reaching Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and position himself for a call-up to the Majors in 2025.
Will Warren, who is ranked No. 8, finished at Triple-A last season and is positioned to be of some help to the Yankees this season. The right-hander went 10-4 with a 3.35 ERA in 2023, striking out 149 and walking 55. Batters hit .226 against him, a 20-point improvement from 2022 for the former eighth-round pick.
The other pitchers in the Yankees’ Top 30 include Henry Lalane (No. 9), Brock Selvidge (No. 11), Kyle Carr (No. 12), Clayton Beeter (No. 14), Carlos Lagrange (No. 17), Yoendrys Gómez (No. 18), Zach Messinger (No. 23), Trystan Vrieling (No. 24), Cade Smith (No. 25), Jack Neely (No. 26) and Danny Watson (No. 30).
Offense drives the top of the rankings, as Jasson Domínguez — who is recovering from Tommy John surgery and won’t be ready to re-join the Yankees until midseason — is No. 1, followed by another outfielder, Spencer Jones. He is in camp with the Yankees and could start the season at Triple-A.
Shortstop Roderick Arias is No. 3 and catcher Austin Wells — who should make the 26-man opening-day roster — rounded out the Top 5.
The other position players in the Top 30 are outfielder Everson Pereira (No. 6), shortstop George Lombard Jr. (No. 7), outfielder Brando Mayea (No. 10), catcher/first baseman Ben Rice (No. 13), outfielder Francisco Vilorio (No. 15), infielder Jorbit Vivas (No. 16), second baseman Roc Riggio (No. 19), infielder Jared Serna (No. 20), infielder Keiner Delgado (No. 21), catcher Agustin Ramirez (No. 22), third baseman Tyler Hardman (No. 27), outfielder John Cruz (No. 28) and outfielder Anthony Hall (No. 29).
