Yankees Have Signaled That They Are Open To Signing Star Duo
The New York Yankees already have made a handful of impact moves but one more could be on the way.
New York's starting rotation has some question marks. If everyone remains healthy and can return to form, the Yankees could actually have a solid rotation. But, that is a big question.
The Yankees dealt with a handful of injuries last season and some of the club's hurlers never were able to get on track. New York seems to be heavily relying on bounce-back campaigns from its hurlers.
This may be the case, but the club still could look to add one more starter into the mix. The two top still available in free agency are Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery and the club has been linked to both in different capacities.
While a signing still should be considered unlikely, New York at least has signaled a willingness to make a move, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
"The Yankees signaling they are still interested in (Scott Boras) left-handers Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery but The Athletic's Brendan Kuty and Chris Kirschner reporting the team's luxury tax rate would mean a one-year, $40 million deal for Snell actually would cost, yikes, $84 million," Rosenthal said.
Landing either Montgomery or Snell would be a massive pickup for the Yankees. New York's biggest point of weakness still is the rotation but landing either hurler immediately would help fix that.
If New York could land either hurler, the perception around the club's rotation would completely change and it actually would have one of the better rotations in the American League on paper.
