The New York Yankees seem to have turned things around of late, but major changes could still be on the horizon.

New York has had a disappointing season, to say the least. The Yankees entered the 2023 season as one of the World Series contenders and yet the club currently sits in last place in the American League East with a disappointing 68-69 record. New York has looked better lately and have won seven of its last 10 games -- including a three-game sweep of the Houston Astros -- but it's unclear if the recent success is enough to change the team's fate.

The Yankees likely will be one of the busiest teams in baseball this upcoming offseason. New York is loaded with talent -- especially now that the club has called up a few of the organization's top prospects -- and likely is just a solid move or two away from making its way back to the postseason.

Although this is the case, Yankees manager Aaron Boone reportedly still is on the hot seat, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.

"Yankees (General Manager) Brian Cashman, who’s in the first of his four-year contract, is safe, and wants to retain manager Aaon Boone," Nightengale said. "Yet, it’s owner Hal Steinbrenner’s call, and if the Yankees continue to plummet wit their recent call-ups of Baby Bombers, Boone could be gone."

While a firing of Boone may not be the most likely outcome, it certainly still is a possibility. New York has underachieved this season, but should be improved next year. If the club can have a solid end to the 2023 season, Boone likely will be in New York in 2024. If the Yankees sputter to end the campaign, there may be different conversations.
