Yankees, Mets Reportedly Will Compete To Sign Superstar Slugger Juan Soto

It sounds like both New York clubs will compete for Soto's services

The New York Yankees will have some serious competition to retain superstar slugger Juan Soto.

New York fans certainly should be excited about the 2024 season. The Yankees have a significantly better roster on paper than they did at the end of the 2023 season. New York made some important additions and now is widely viewed as one of the top teams in the American League.

One of the biggest reasons why certainly is the addition of Soto. New York needed some offensive help and landed one of the best players in baseball. While this is the case, he could only remain with the Yankees for one season.

Soto will enter free agency and there's sure to be plenty of teams who show interest in him. One team that reportedly will pursue Soto is the New York Mets, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

"The most interesting thing heard at Mets' camp yesterday -- and it's not surprising, given that the (Max Scherzer) contract (and others) will melt off their payroll next winter -- is that they fully intend to take a run at Juan Soto next winter," Olney said.

This isn't the first time the Mets have been mentioned as an option for Soto and likely won't be the last. The Mets have plenty of money to spend and can afford any price.

The Yankees aren't slouches, though. New York will be able to afford Soto too if it decides to. It's unclear what will happen, but it is clear that both New York clubs will attempt to bring Soto in next offseason.
