Yankees Place Oswald Peraza on IL, Aaron Judge Returns
In order to activate superstar Aaron Judge on Tuesday, the Yankees placed infielder Oswald Peraza on the 10-day injured list with a right ankle sprain.
Peraza's IL stint is retroactive to May 6. He first suffered the injury last week when he rolled his ankle during the Yankees' 4-3 extra inning win over the Cleveland Guardians.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone indicated that Peraza's injury could require an IL stint, but he did not express much concern over the severity to reporters.
Peraza was spotted taking batting practice following the injury.
“He’s doing really well,” Boone said, according to Newsday. “He’s moving pretty well. [On Sunday], I had him in a hitting situation only . . . We also don’t want to jeopardize him at all or put him in a bad spot.”
Peraza was batting .188 with a .316 on-base percentage in 38 major league plate appearances this year.
With Judge coming back, the Yankees would have had to option or designate someone for assignment. Instead, they were able to just place Peraza on the IL.
The hope is that Judge can give the Yankees' lineup a significant boost, as the team has been treading water since he landed on the shelf.
