Yankees Reportedly Could Add Former MVP In Free Agency This Upcoming Offseason

New York could be in the market for a major splash this upcoming offseason

The New York Yankees will have plenty of work to do this upcoming offseason.

New York likely will need to go back to the drawing board as the club attempts to get back to the postseason in 2024. The Yankees are in last place in the American League East with an abysmal 62-68 record and at this point look like they will finish the 2023 campaign below .500.

The Yankees have plenty of holes on the roster and will be in the market for more starting pitching, as well as at least one power bat. One player who could fit the club's needs and reportedly could be a target in free agency is Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.

"The Cubs, who entered Saturday clinging to the final wild-card spot, and five games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central, certainly plan to be in the bidding to retain Bellinger," Nightengale said. "The Giants, who have been trying for years to lure a big star to San Francisco, figure to offer him the most money. The Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees could be jumping in, too."

New York was linked to the Cubs star ahead of the 2023 Major League Trade Deadline but Chicago ultimately held on to the resurgent star. Bellinger has been a revelation this season for the Cubs and has slashed .321/.368/.546 to go along with 20 home runs and 75 RBIs in 99 games so far this campaign.

Bellinger would be a perfect fit for the Yankees and it sounds like they may be interested in a big move this upcoming offseason.
