Yankees Reportedly Could Bring Fireballer Back After Stellar Season In Free Agency
The New York Yankees likely will have plenty of turnover this offseason but that doesn't mean there won't be some returners on the roster in 2024.
New York will have plenty of tough decisions to make this offseason. This isn't surprising after winning just 82 games. The club was in real danger of finishing the season below .500 but got hot toward the end of the campaign. Changes need to be made. The club likely will do so this offseason, but it wouldn't hurt to keep some of the bright spots around.
One player who makes sense to bring back into the fold is reliever Wandy Peralta, according to The Athletic's Chris Kirschner.
"Unlike last season when (Aaron Judge) was a free agent, the Yankees don't have a player they must bring back," Kirschner said. An argument can be made for Wandy Peralta, the fans' choice, as the team could use a high-leverage left-handed reliever in the bullpen. Peralta has been dependable since the Yankees traded for him, and he remains one of the best at generating soft, weak contact."
Peralta was stellar for the Yankees in 2023. The 32-year-old appeared in 63 games for New York and compiled a minuscule 2.83 ERA. He joined the Yankees in 2021 and in over two seasons in New York has compiled a 2.82 ERA in 165 total outings. Peralta will be a free agent this offseason but a move certainly makes sense. New York had the best bullpen in baseball in 2023 and Peralta was a major reason why. At this point, it certainly makes sense to bring him back to New York on a new deal.
