It sounds like a reunion could be on the way in New York with a rising star pitcher

The New York Yankees certainly are in a holding pattern right now.

New York has money to spend and a few holes on the roster it needs to fill before the 2024 campaign rolls around. Although this is the case, the Yankees can't really make a move at this time as they wait on Orix Buffaloes ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto's free-agent decision.

Yamamoto is the Yankees' top option but many teams are pursuing him at this time. Although the Yankees want him, there is a chance he ends up elsewhere. If he does sign with a different club, one player the Yankees could pursue is rising star hurler Jordan Montgomery, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

"A rotation without (Yoshinobu Yamamoto) would require at least one more starter, and the Yankees, at least internally, have discussed a reunion with free-agent lefty Jordan Montgomery," Rosenthal said. "The team also could seek to build what one source described as a 'super-charged' bullpen. The three top relievers listed by The Athletic's Tim Britton and Aaron Gleeman in their top-40 free agents -- Josh Hader (No. 10), Jordan Hicks (No. 23), and Robert Stephenson (No. 29) remain unsigned."

Montgomery has been mentioned as a fit for New York multiple times this offseason and it isn't hard to see why. The big lefty has been extremely steady and has logged an ERA under 4.00 in each of the last three seasons. Plus, it doesn't hurt that he was drafted by the Yankees and spent the first five-plus years of his career in town before being traded to the St. Louis Cardinals.

New York needs to add to the rotation and it sounds like it plans to do so in some capacity.
