The New York Yankees already have made some major moves this offseason but there is more work to be done.

New York already has added outfielders Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo this offseason and is in a better spot. Although this is the case, before the offseason ends, the Yankees need to add at least one new starting pitcher and one or two relievers to fortify the bullpen.

One player the Yankees reportedly have shown interest in is fireballer Jordan Hicks, according to The Athletic's Katie Woo.

"The Cardinals were one of many teams to meet with representatives for Jordan Hicks during the Winter Meeting last week, per multiple league sources," Woo said. "The team came close to inking an extension with Hicks before the deadline, but when negotiations fell through, St. Louis traded the right-handed -- who had recently emerged as a legitimate closer -- the (Toronto Blue Jays).

"The trade didn't close the door on Hicks, who would open to returning to the Cardinals. However, given his high ceiling and prime age (at 27 years old, Hicks is the youngest free-agent reliever available) league interest is sure to be high. Besides the Cardinals, the (New York Yankees), and (Houston Astros) have also reportedly checked in on Hicks, a Houston native."

Hicks spent the 2023 season with the Cardinals and Blue Jays and logged a 3.29 ERA across 65 outings. The fireballer shined down the stretch after being traded to Toronto and compiled a 2.63 across 25 outings after the trade deadline.

It wouldn't be too surprising to see the Yankees land Hicks this offseason. He is just 27 years old and could help the club for years to come. New York had the best bullpen in baseball last season and needs to make an addition or two to maintain that success. Hicks could be the perfect pickup.
