Yankees Star Fireballer Could Be Back In New York Next Season
The New York Yankees have added a handful of players this offseason and could add at least one more soon.
New York likely is nearing the end of its offseason acquisitions but could have one or two moves up its sleeves. If the Yankees are going to make another move this offseason, it likely would be for a relief pitcher.
The Yankees have been linked to multiple hurlers recently -- and even are seen as one of the "frontrunners" to land former Houston Astros pitcher Hector Neris. There still are some other options out there, though.
One player who could be a reunion candidate for the Yankees is fireballer Wandy Peralta, according to SNY's Andy Martino.
"Wandy Peralta is also still a possibility for Yankees," Martino said.
Peralta arguably was one of the best relievers in baseball last season as a member of the Yankees. He has a fastball that clears 100 miles per hour, impressive advanced metrics, and logged a 2.83 ERA in 63 appearances last season.
The 32-year-old has spent the last two-plus seasons with the Yankees and has logged an overall 2.82 ERA in 165 appearances with a 133-to-65 strikeout-to-walk ratio. If the Yankees could bring him back to town, they would have one of their most important relievers back in the bullpen.
New York has significantly improved the club overall this offseason, but the bullpen isn't as strong right now. Bringing Peralta back to town would go a long way in changing that.
