Yankees Star Fireballer Reportedly Dealing With Unfortunate Injury
The New York Yankees possibly could lose one of their best relief pitchers for the rest of the season.
New York got some bad news Wednesday night as Wandy Peralta reportedly suffered a triceps injury, according to the New York Daily News Sports' Gary Phillips.
"Wandy Peralta is dealing with some "tricep stuff," Aaron Boone said," as transcribed by Phillips.
Peralta hasn't appeared in a game for the Yankees since he pitched an inning against the rival Boston Red Sox on September 14th. The fireballer appeared in two games in New York's series against Boston and didn't allow a run across two innings pitched but has been unable to go ever since.
At this point, it may be unlikely for us to see Peralta back on the mound this season. New York has just 10 games left this season and it may not make sense to rush him back to the mound and risk further injury. Peralta has been exceptional for the Yankees this season and has appeared in 63 games and has compiled a 2.83 ERA across 54 innings pitched. The lefty hasn't allowed an earned run since August 23rd and has gone 10 straight appearances without allowing a run.
It's unfortunate that Peralta may not appear in another game this season and is just another example of injuries negatively impacting the Yankees this season. New York has been bitten by the injury bug in a major way throughout the 2023 campaign and it certainly is a big reason for the club's 76-76 record. New York will be busy this offseason as the club hopes to improve plus hopefully the team will have better health in 2024.
